Cervical Cancer (CC) is a curable disease, yet it kills about 311000 women yearly in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) due to lack of screening and treatment. CC; if detected early, can successfully be treated. However, limited access to prevention, screening, and treatment contributes to 90% of the CC-associated deaths. Current techniques used for CC screening in developed countries are relatively expensive while also requiring sophisticated equipment and trained professionals, none of which is easily accessible in LMIC. We have developed an automated, cost-effective, and portable device that can screen women for CC. Our device consists of two main modules: i) a microfluidic part for sample processing, and ii) an electrochemical biosensor for target identification. We have characterized the accuracy of our device in the lab and with spiked samples. We believe our device has the potential to transform CC detection and screening at remote locations.
