The proposed application titled "Innovation of Formulation and Manufacture Processes to Improve Natural Health Products" is led by John Abbott College through their CCTT, the CERASP -Centre d'expertise et de recherché appliquee en sciences pharmaceutiques. This project will successfully develop new formulations, optimize existing products, improve manufacturing processes, and support the regulatory application process for Natural Health Product (NHP) licenses from Health Canada. These steps are always daunting for small businesses; CERASP is equipped to successfully implement the required research, formulation, and technology transfer expertise for these projects. CERASP has deposited documentation to Health Canada and has obtained Natural Product Numbers (NPNs) for previous clients. We know we can work with the industrial partners in this grant to produce commercially viable NHP. The industrial partners will provide the raw NHP materials and any fundamental research methods to CERASP, then we will design new formulations and the analytical methods needed to assess product purity and monitoring of shelf life stability. CERASP will elaborate the manufacturing process and then transfer the technology to Health Canada-certified contract manufacturing organizations (CMOs). Student training is a significant focus of the proposal; our highly qualified personnel will enhance their research skills, professional skills, and their knowledge of NHPs. This project will enable companies to generate new NHP to meet the growing demand from Canadians who are incorporating NHP habitually into their lifestyles. The research team and student trainees will be recruited and work under the guidance of EDI principals and practices.
