From the past few years identification and authentication of objects in a connected world has been a prime focus of research. Internet of Things (IoT) has intensified this demand due to its massive growth rate. The huge number of IoT devices makes it challenging to implement centralized authentication mechanisms. This project targets the design of a practical, highly scalable, secure authentication framework for humans, vehicles, IoT devices, and physical assets. It adopts Fog-enabled blockchain-based cryptographic solutions combined with novel biometric features. The framework will uniquely identify objects using multi-biometric features that are associated with integrated smart SIM chips. The project will produce a secure, scalable and fault tolerant authentication technology, define its architecture, and implement its protocols. We will also design processing/storage efficient biometrics collection/encoding/decoding algorithms, capable of running in smart SIM Cards. The technology will be applied to the development of applications and products. Novel biometrics collection and encoding/decoding devices will be developed. An advanced person and SIM card registration, verification, and identification system will be implemented. It will be integrated to one of our industrial partner's (Flex Group) products, which targets the Telecom operator market. In addition, a smart electric energy trading service will be developed and its components implemented. Also, an advanced, biometrics based cyber-security apparatus for 5G networks that is based on multi-level authentication will be produced.
