英文摘要
Building on its track record of supporting mathematical sciences research, discovery, andinnovation, the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS) proposes a variety of highcaliber, collaborative, thematic and training programs fostering excellence in the mathematical andstatistical sciences in Canada. PIMS supports scientists and their research to build collaborativepartnerships and sustainable research infrastructure.Novel activities proposed include the PIMS Research Networks (PRN), Network-Wide GraduateCourses, the Math to Power Industry (M2PI) program, the Emergent Research PIMS PostdoctoralFellows Seminar, the PIMS + X scholars program supporting collaborative exchanges withCanadian and international mathematical sciences institutes, and a Virtual ExperimentalMathematics Laboratory (VXML). Support will continue for the signature PIMS innovation, theCollaborative Research Groups (CRG) program, Post- doctoral Fellows (PDF) program, summerschools and workshops, and the Syzygy and Callysto computational platforms. PIMS programsare focused on building research capacity, community, and enhancing equity, diversity andinclusion (EDI), a crucial part of excellence in the sciences.Extensive collaborations with Canadian and international institutes are a central element in thisproposal. These partnerships, and the support of member universities, highly leverage NSERCsupport. As the first distributed mathematical sciences institute in the world, and the firstInternational Research Laboratory (IRL) of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique(CNRS) in the mathematical sciences in North America, PIMS has deep expertise in buildingcollaborative networks across large geographical distances. This expertise has been invaluable inaddressing operational challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and creating platforms thatenable collaboration across its distributed network and beyond. PIMS will leverage this expertiseto pursue further development in North America.
