项目摘要

The NSERC-CREATE Additive Manufacturing in Engineering Design and Global Entrepreneurship (AM-EDGE) is a unique experiential learning-based, research-driven, industry-oriented training program proposed to further embrace the scientific research and innovations in AM, and create a foundation for entrepreneurship, in the likely next industrial revolution. AM is considered as the future of manufacturing to produce complex and advanced multifunctional materials, not feasible by current manufacturing techniques, and important to the aerospace, automotive and bioengineering sectors. This program will address Additive Manufacturing 2.0, classified as using non-traditional materials, flexible manufacturing and multidiscipline integration, and defining the global dimension in its local and remote business models, thus supply chain. This program also aligns with Industry 4.0 vision as well as Artificial Intelligence as the integral parts of the AM system; creating smart factories of the future. Within the AM-EDGE program, HQP will work in multi-disciplinary fields with experts from academia and industry in a collaborative and integrated system, creating a venture lab to be located at York University and six satellites. In this case, HQP will receive specialized AM scientific research and professional training to become engineers and leaders, working in an organization like a large consulting firm, with local and remote offices. The evolving technical and entrepreneurship services of AM-EDGE will contribute to become self-sustainable. Diversity is addressed at its core basis with the notion that diversity adds a multidimensional scientific and entrepreneurship strength and spirit. This program will prepare HQP to select and build their AM career paths. AM-EDGE will establish a strong network with industry, government, academic institutions and outreach programs, benefiting industry, academia, society and Canada.
