中国是世界上苔藓植物最丰富的国家之一。然而，广西、福建、四川等苔藓植物资源大省物种多样性了解的不足，极大的影响了我们对中国苔藓植物资源状况的认识。广西在苔藓植物物种多样性上不仅丰富而且独特，非常值得深入开展调查研究。当前，优先在广西南岭山地开展苔藓植物物种多样性调查研究，即符合国家和广西生物多样性保护战略的需要，又贴合广西自身苔藓植物研究发展的需求。本项目拟以揭示广西南岭山地苔藓植物物种多样性和分布家底为科学目标，重点针对广西南岭山地分布的8个国家级自然保护区和其他有特色的地段进行苔藓植物的专门调查，通过广泛采集苔藓标本和整合历史标本信息，运用经典分类学的研究方法辅以必要的分子技术手段，达到科学认识物种的目的，从而完成广西南岭山地苔藓植物物种多样性编目，为苔藓植物资源的保护和持续利用提供必要的基础数据。

China has one of the richest bryophyte flora in the world. However, incompleted knowledge of biodiversity of bryophytes in those provinces (such as Guangxi, Fujian, Sichuan etc.) with abundant bryophyte resources, has hampered our understanding of the bryoflora of China. The bryoflora of Guangxi is not only abundant but also unique, which merit deeper research studies. The current priority to carry out bryophyte diversity survey research on Nanling mountainous region of Guangxi is to meet the needs of China’s and Guangxi’s biodiversity conservation strategies, as well as the need to develop bryology in Guangxi. The proposed project is grounded on the biodiversity and distribution of bryophytes on Nanling mountainous region as its main scientific objectives. Eight national-level nature reserves along with selected areas with unique habitats will be targeted for the bryological survey. The planned scientific objectives will be realised through a broad-based general collection of bryophytes with GPS data, digital photography of the plants both in the field and under microscopes in the laboratory, compilation of historical specimen information, and use of traditional taxonomy complimented with molecular methods, thereby producing complete a catalogue of bryophytes for the Nanling mountainous region of Guangxi. The collected data will be essential in plotting out the distribution of the World’s and Chinese threatened species of bryophytes within the study area.
