We have entered the "Network-centric Computing Era". The software complexity becomes severe problem. "How do develop the application software system efficiently?" remains a hard nut in the computer science field. The object technique progresses at a high speed because of its perfect character.The project studies the visual object modeling technique based on Java/CORBA. We have bore the fruits of the work on the following topics: Java/CORBA programming, visual object modeling based Java/CORBA, experimenting with typical examples and making real application.Java and CORBA, the former deals with implementation transparency while the latter provides the network transparency. These features make them complementary with each other well. We will trace each recent development, and deeply investigate their combination and carefully compare the combination with the similar others..In the earlier stage, object-oriented software development is thought of as a bottom-up approach based on the objects of the problem domain. But in this project, we claim the middle-up approach, which stars with the real-world model, absorbs the functionalities provided by Java/CORBA platform, goes up to the enterprise level and down to the program level. We pay more attention to: 1) making design rigor; 2) involving visual programming; 3) designing automatic modeling tools; and 4) establishing the formal mechanism for further abstraction of objects in the application universe of discourse.We have entered the "Network-centric Computing Era".
