Individuals' nervous systems remain in a state of prolonged activation after high-intensity cognitive and emotional activities during work, resulting in the continuous consumption of their physical and mental resources and hindering their recovery. As is it accepted, the more detachment from the work we need the more likely it is to fail, which requires a further exploration in current research to point out what we can do when in detachment difficulties(Smit, 2015). In response to this practical call, the project introduces the counter-regulation principle of implicit emotion regulation theory into the study of psychological detachment. On the basis of distinguishing three typical work emotional stress situations, it proposes three different types of off-job activities that can respectively mitigate the effects of specific stressors on psychological detachment. The proposed theoretical model will be examined in multiple ways through a pilot study, a daily-level study, an intervention study, and a longitudinal study. The conclusion of the project is expected to extend the understanding of psychological detachment from the conscious level to the subconscious level, and expand the interpretations of its functional principle from the attention transfer mechanism to the implicit interference inhibition mechanism. It is also expected to help individuals and organizations to cope with high pressure situations, especially to solve the problems of difficulties in maintaining physical and mental resources and conserving the unsustainable energy of front-line groups in emergencies like the COVID-19.
