厄尔尼诺与南方涛动(ENSO)是热带海气系统中年际气候变率的最强信号,其变异可造成全球天气气候异常。依据海温异常的空间形态可分为:东太平洋型ENSO和中太平洋型ENSO。目前关于两类ENSO对热带海气协同关系的可能影响、作用机理及物理成因尚缺乏系统研究。本项目拟以Hadley环流与热带海温经向结构协同关系为切入点,利用长期的观测、模式资料,通过资料统计和动力诊断,结合理论分析、理论模型及数值模拟,研究两类ENSO对此协同关系的影响,分析不同类型事件间、同一类型冷、暖事件对此协同关系影响的异同,揭示影响的物理过程及作用机理,明确关键物理过程在导致不同影响形成中的作用。在此基础上,总结两类ENSO调制热带海温经向结构与Hadley环流协同关系的物理概念模型。相关工作的开展,有利于深入理解热带海气过程变异特征,将为深入认识两类ENSO动力学和气候效应提供科学参考,具有重要的科学和现实意义。
英文摘要
The El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is the most dominant interannual variability of the tropical Pacific air-sea system, showing significant impacts on the global and regional weather and climate. According to the different spatial pattern of anomalous sea surface temperature (SST), ENSO is generally classified into two types, i.e., the eastern Pacific ENSO, and the central Pacific ENSO. However, there is no systemic analyses regarding the modulation of the two types of ENSO on the coordinate relationship between the Hadley circulation (HC) and tropical SST, either of their characteristics, causes, or the physical mechanisms involved. This project will address this issue, and focus on the potential impacts of the two types of ENSO on the coordinated relationship between the HC and meridional structures of tropical SST. By using the long-term observation datasets and model outputs, employing statistical analysis and dynamic diagnosis method, and combing with the theoretical analysis, theoretical model and numerical simulations, we expect to explore the potential influences of the two types of ENSO on the mentioned coordinated relationship, to distinguish the different impacts existed in the different types of ENSO as well as those between the warm and cold events, to discuss the relevant physical processes and mechanisms involved. On this basis, we will conclude the important modulation of the two types of ENSO on the relationship between the HC and meridional structures of tropical SST. The implement of relevant work would not only improve the understanding of the relationship between the tropical air and ocean, also would provide some scientific references for further recognition of the climatic effects of ENSO as well as their dynamical processes, thus it would be helpful in both the scientific endeavor and practical significance.
