数学文化包含数学的思想、方法、观点，数学家的生平，数学与艺术、科学的关系以及数学史等。数学文化教育与研究具有重要意义：为数学研究注入人文关怀，提供哲学意义上的方法论；数学文化的繁荣是社会文明的重要体现；激发数学兴趣，培养科学精神和优良品质。我国非常重视数学文化研究，但存在以下问题：整体研究水平不高，研究层面不均衡，研究角度单一，理论研究者与一线教师缺乏密切合作。当代中国数学工作者紧跟时代步伐，对国外数学文化成果不断吸收，翻译了许多优秀的数学文化著作。但国内有关跨学科数学文化层面的研究比较少。Handbook of the Mathematics of the Arts and Science这套丛书讨论了数学跨学科的起源、跨学科的数学文化以及当代跨学科趋势，是一套优秀的数学文化丛书。本项目旨在将其翻译成中文出版，以便更好地服务于我国跨学科数学文化的教育与研究。

The connotations of Mathematical culture are rich, including the ideas, methods, viewpoints of mathematics, the life of mathematicians, the relationship between mathematics and the arts and sciences, and the history of mathematics. The education and research on mathematical culture is of great significance: injecting humanistic care into mathematical research and providing philosophical methodology for mathematical research; the prosperity of mathematical culture showing social civilization; stimulating interest in mathematics, and cultivating scientific spirit and good quality. In our country people pay much attention to the research on mathematical culture, but there exist the following problems: the overall research level is low, the research sides are not balanced enough, the research points are single, and there is lack of close cooperation between theoretical researchers and front-line teachers. Contemporary Chinese mathematicians keep up with the times and diligently strive. They continuously absorb in foreign mathematical culture, and translate many excellent works on mathematical culture. However, there are relatively few domestic studies on cross-cultural components of interdisciplinarity linked to mathematics. Handbook of the Mathematics of the Arts and Science discusses the origins of interdisciplinarity in mathematics, cross-cultural components of interdisciplinarity linked to mathematics and contemporary interdisciplinary trends. It is an excellent series of mathematical culture. This project aims to translate Handbook of the Mathematics of the Arts and Sciences into Chinese in order to better serve the scientific research and teaching on cross-cultural components of interdisciplinarity linked to mathematics.
