英文摘要
Numerous geological relicts (e.g., mélange, ophiolite suite, oceanic basalts, radiolarian-bearing silicalite, high-pressure metamorphic rocks, blueschist and associated arc-magmatism) related to the Devonian to Triassic Paleotethyan evolution are abundantly preserved in the eastern segment of Eastern Paleotethyan domain in Southeast Asia besides South Tibet and SW Yunnan. These relicts provide a record of not only Paleotethyan subduction but also the subsequent collision of the Cimmerian blocks (Sibumasu/South Qiangtang) with Southeast Asia continental fragments (e.g., Simao, Indochina and South China blocks). Numerous structural, lithological, geochemical and geochronological data have been collected through East and Southeast Asia, yet key questions relating to “when and where” of the East Paleotethyan subduction remain in dispute. This hinders our full understanding of “how”; i.e., what are the fundamental geodynamic processes that drove this tectonic evolution. In detail, these questions are: (1) what suture zone represents the main closure boundary; (2) when did closure actually occur; and (3) what is the style of assembly of the Eastern Cimmerian and Southeast Asia continental fragments? In an attempt to change the above-mentioned research status, this proposal will focus on the Late Paleozoic-earliest Mesozoic tectonic reconstruction of Southeast Asia multi-fragments and East Paleotethyan consumption in Thailand, Laos and Malaysia, with an aim for answering the following key issues, involving (a) the tectonic affinity of the different microblocks or fragments in Southeast Asia; (b) tectonic setting of the related amalgamation boundaries and temporal patterns of the different fragments in Southeast Asia; (c) reconstruction of the palaeogeographic locations of the different microblocks or fragments and Late Paleozoic trench-basin system in Southeast Asia; (d) final closure time of Eastern Paleotethyan Ocean and amalgamation style and process of the different microblocks or fragments of the Sibumasu with Simao/Indochina Blocks in Southeast Asia. A new model for the tectonic evolution of the eastern segment of Paleotethyan Domain is expected to be proposed.
