Global warming has caused many environmental problems. Ascertaining the position of the modern warm period in the long-term climate change is of great significance to how humans adapt to climate change in the future. The quantitative study of terrestrial temperature in the Asian monsoon region since the Last Glacial Maximum has been the research focus of academic attention in China. However, the reconstructed records based on different indicators show that there are significant differences in temperature fluctuation among different regions. The application of seasonal proxies with clear physical significance is crucial for understanding the history of climate evolution and its driving mechanism. The subfossil chironomids in lakes are one of the most effective biological indicators for the quantitative summer temperature reconstruction, which has been widely used in the quantitative study of paleo-temperature around the world. This study aims to apply the chironomid-based transfer function in northeast China to the summer temperature reconstruction of Lake Tuofengling in the central Greater Khingan Mountains for the last 50 years, and evaluate the feasibility of the reconstruction results in the long-term quantitative temperature research by comparing with the meteorological record. Based on a high-resolution chronological sedimentary core, this study will quantitatively reconstruct the summer temperature series over the past 20,000 years in northeast China, clarify the magnitude of the century-millennia scale climate fluctuations in the region, and explore their driving mechanisms.
