Laser is a critical issue related to the people's livelihood, and the research on practical laser materials and key scientific problems is the foundation of the lasers. Lasers in the eye-safe spectral region around 2.3μm are now a hot topic in laser regimes, and this laser is urgently required to be developed. The 3H4→3H5 transition of Tm3+ ions can emit the 2.3μm photons and the lasing based on this transition is an important technique for the 2.3μm lasers. However, the upper laser lifetime (3H4) may be easily quenched due to different reasons. And the large quantum defects determining strong thermal effects, both of constrained the development of practical gain media and laser devices. In this project, aiming at the bottleneck of 2.3μm lasers, we propose to choose the novel Tm3+-doped disordered garnet as the 2.3μm laser materials, and study the growth and effects of energy-transfer upconversion (ETU) to get a quantitative evaluation between the key parameter and laser structure-activity. On the basis of high efficient cw laser, the next work will focus on the generation of ultra-short pulse. The research entry point will focus on on regulating the local ligand fields and studying the spectra performance. And at last, to achieve the aims of high efficient cw and ultra-short pulse laser.
