The research investigated the effect of Nano-chemical (Terrasil) as a stabilizing agent on the geotechnical properties of subgrade. The subgrade used was classified as inorganic silty clay of high plasticity under the Casagrande classification chart, A-7-6 (0) soil under the American Association of States Highways and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), and clay of high plasticity (CH) under the unified soil classification system, (USCS). The maximum dry density (MDD) and the California bearing ratio of the unstabilized soil were 1190kg/m3 and 9.13% (48 hrs soaked) respectively. Nano-chemical (Terrasil) was added in 0%, 2%, 4%, 6% up to 8% to stabilize the soil. The results revealed that, nano-chemical (terrasil) improved plasticity by reducing liquid limit, plastic limit and linear shrinkage. Also the maximum dry density (MDD) increased by 9.2% to an optimal value of 1300kg/m3 before decreasing to 1060kg/m3. The optimum moisture content (OMC) also increased with the addition of nano-chemical (Terrasil). The CBR showed improvement by 5.6% for the unsoaked and 2.1% for the soaked. The study concluded that, an optimal nano-chemical (Terrasil) value of 4% could give acceptable results.
