Conjugate addition of the organocuprate reagent 3 to the enones 10-13, followed by germanium-iodine exchange of the resultant products, provides the bicyclic vinyl iodides 18a-21a, 18b, 20b, and 21b. Palladium(0)-catalyzed cyclization of the latter substances in the presence of t-BuOK affords the structurally unique tricyclic compounds 22-27.
