Two kinds of oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) vanadium alloys have been successfully fabricated by powder metallurgy. The detailed characteristics of the dispersion particles in a V0.25Y2O3and a V4Cr4Ti0.5Si0.5AI0.5Y0.25Y2O3were examined by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Vickers micro hardness test. The density and size distribution of the dispersion particles were measured as fabricated and annealed at 2073 K by using TEM. In both alloys as fabricated, the mean Y203 size is 0.04 μm and precipitates which mainly consists of the solute atoms were observed in the V4Cr4Ti0.5Si0.5A10.5Y0.25Y203. The density of dispersion particles in V0.25Y2O3and V4Cr4Ti0.5Si0.5Al0.5Y0.25Y203 is 6.6 X 1018/ m3and 2.3 X 1018/ m3respectively. The annealing at 2073 K caused recrystallization in both alloys and a decrease the density of particles in only the V4Cr4Ti0.5Si0.5A10.5Y0.25Y,03 alloy due to disappearance of the precipitates.
