Effect of different planting date on phenophase and external quality was studied in three spray cut chrysanthemum cultivars.The results showed that different planting date significantly affected the phenophase and external quality of spray cut chrysanthemum.Plants planted in early May in general flowered earliest compared to plants planted in early April and June.From planting to flowering,the cv.Qinglu planted in early May only took 85 days,while the cv.Baifengwo planted in early June took 108 days.The external quality was best in plants which were planted in early April.Plant height,canopy diameter,stem diameter and internode length decreased with the delay of planting date.But effect of planting date on flower diameter was cultivar-dependent.The present study indicated that spray cut chrysanthemum can be produced in the north of Jiangsu province in summer and the optimal planting date is between April and May.
