Tumors of the nonpigment layer of the ciliary body are not as rare as many ophthalн mologists and pathologists seem to think. Several types of such tumors are known. They may be perfectly benign, locally maн lignant or infiltrating in growth. No metastases of such tumors are recorded. The more malignant types of these tumors are related to the retinoblastomas. Transitional tumor types in different stages between malignant neoplasms of the pars ciliaris and retinoblastoma have been observed. Simple hyperplasia of the ciliary epithelium has to be differentiated from true neoplasms. Most of the tumors of the pars ciliaris retinae can be classified as benign Fuchs epithelioma, medullo-epithelioma of the embryonic type
