The sample, 0.4 ml., is treated withisopropanol, which simultaneously precipitates protein and extracts both free and esterified cholesterol. Total cholesterol is estimated colorimetrically with an FeCl3reagent. Free cholesterol is precipitated from a second portion with digitonin and estimated similarly.-H. G. Bray.
