Laveran was a medical officer in the French army stationed in Algeria and is stated by Guthrie "Lo have discovered the parasite (of malaria) in the blood corpuscles." _ _ Laveran's work was confirnied and extended by numerous worker~, especially Sir R:mald Ross, Sir Patrick Manson, Camillo Golgi and Giovanni Grassi. As will be seen from the stamp illustrated here, which was published by the Algerian Postal Offices in 19!\4, Laveran was awarded a Nohel Prize.
