I. Further clinical observations on goats with experimentally-produced scrapie are recorded, and comment is made on two clinical syndromes-nervous and scratching- that appear to be reproducible by intracerebral inoculation. It is suggested that certain "strains" of the scrapie agent produce the nervous and others the scratching syndrome.Rapid freezing and thawing of a saline suspension of scrapie goat brain did not adversely affect the infectivity. An ether extract of scrapie goat brain was shown by intracerebral inoculation of goats to contain the scrapie-producing agent, while an acetone extract of the same brain failed to produce the disease when inoculated intra-cerebrally into goats that have been kept under observation for two years.
