The paper focuses on the design of a 6-8 seat ramjet-based hypersonic vehicle for a target trip of 6000 km in the frame of the “urgent business travel” and “fast cargo transportation” market segments and/or for suborbital perspectives. A vehicle configuration with relatively high lift-over-drag ratio and low wing loading factor has been developed in order to guarantee very low operational load conditions along properly chosen point-to-point flight paths. An aerodynamically efficient rounded double swept delta wing with relatively sharp leading edges is implemented. A turbo-ramjet propulsion system is envisaged coupled with a liquid rocket booster to sustain space tourism “multi-jump” flight, The same vehicle will be able to guarantee relatively smooth environmental conditions for passengers during the pullup maneuvers associated with space tourism flight. The paper mostly focuses on the market perspectives for both intercontinental point-to-point and space tourism flights, and demonstrates that the break-even point may occur in a relatively short period over a twenty year investment scenario, with very low ticket prices.
