ATTEMPTS to describe the flow of glaciers theoretically have been hindered by lack of knowledge of the actual behaviour of ice under stress, and for this reason experiments have been made on blocks of polycrystalline ice with random orientation. The method of preparation of such blocks and preliminary results of compression tests on them at − 1.5°C. have already been briefly reported1. Further compression tests have now been made at − 12.8°, − 6.7°, − 1.5° and − 0.02° C.
