As the solar industry grows, there is interest in exploring a wide variety of approaches, Of these, concentrating photovoltaic power (CPV) is qualitatively different, using lenses or mirrors to reduce the amount of semiconductor material needed to produce each kW. The development of multijunction, III-V concentrator cells with efficiencies > 40% enables this approach by increasing the value of the optics.
