Lecithin-cholesterol acyltransferase in human plasma catalyzes the formation of cholesterol esters and lysolecithin primarily from choles terol and lecithin present in high density lipo proteins(1). The newly formed cholesterol esters are partially transferred from high to low density lipoproteins, and lysolecithin to albumin(2).Recently, Fielding et al. reported that both end products inhibit the acyltransferase reac tion and that the addition of albumin elimi nates the inhibitory effect of lysolecithin(3). The present communication describes quanti tative studies on the effect of lysolecithin and albumin on acyltransferase activity and deter mination of the equivalence ratio of lysoleci thin to albumin.
