The Late Jurassic to Early Cretaceous (138-117 Ma) sediments of the Neuquen Basin (Argentina) are in part derived from a transitional to dissected magmatic are in the west and a metamorphic highland (North Patagonian Massif) in the south to southwest. The only exceptions are the sediments 128.5 Ma in age, which also indicate a source from a recycled orogen (Block of San Rafael) in the east. Modal analyses and heavy-mineral analyses reflect the development of the magmatic are with regard to both region and time. In the Tithonian the are supplied debris typical of a transitional are. In the Berriasian the detritus originated from a dissected are, which returned to its transitional stage in the uppermost Berriasian.
