Describes the constellation of communicative skills and disorders in Williams syndrome. Published and unpublished case studies and assessments confirm that individuals with Williams syndrome generally are mildly to moderately retarded, language-delayed, talkative, hypersensitive to sound, and typically placed in special education classes. Although language is delayed, verbosity and good articulation skills sometimes mask the degree of cognitive deficit. Interventions involving desensitization procedures and language therapy are described.(PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2022 APA, all rights reserved)
