Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is associated with significant risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD) like insulin resistance, hyperinsulinism, hypertension and dyslipidemia. We studied CVD risk in young women (18-35 years age) with PCOS using carotid intima media thickness (CIMT) and brachial artery flow mediated dilation (FMD) which are markers of subclinical atherosclerosis. Fifty women with PCOS (age: 24.3+/-4 years; body mass index [BMI]: 24.6 +/- 1 4 kg/m(2)) were compared with 50 age and BMI matched healthy controls (age: 24.6 +/- 5 years; BMI: 23.9 +/- 4 kg/m(2)).
