Growth of the palate was studied on dental casts by means of tracings of its median sagittal and transverse contours at various developmental stages. In order to compare the tracings of the palate in one individual and between individuals, it was necessary to find (1) an accurate and identical orientation in space for all dental casts and (2) a point on the palate to serve as basis of reference for obtaining tracings at closely comparable levels.
