Structural variations of the natural, insecticidal pyrethroids have so far involved primarily the ester component and the side chain. Compounds of type 1, in which the geminal CH 3 groups are replaced by CF 3, have now been prepared. A Wittig reaction with 2 plays the central role in these syntheses.
