II. " A method has been described for preparing an antigen solution which correlates in the immunodiffusion test with the results obtained in the standard tube precipitin test for coccidioidomycosis. This antigen solution was prepared from the toluene lysate of washed fungus growth and has been referred to as lysate antigen solution (LAS)." In 2 separate studies of human serum specimens, 1 a selected group and the other specimens submitted for routine serologic testing, the LAS preparation detected, with a high degree of accuracy, those sera which yielded a positive tube precipitin test. The filtrate antigen solution, described in an earlier report, continued to detect the sera which were complement-fixation positive. It is suggested that immunodiffusion tests with these 2 antigen preparations may be used at the local laboratory level, and that the incorporation of these tests into the routine work schedule of the clinical laboratory will make it possible for the clinician to have a qualitative report at an early date. In most instances in which the specimen is positive, the result is available within 24 hr.".
