Transport behaviors of organic and inorganic solutes in individual or mixed solutions through the charge-mosaic membrane prepared from the pentablock copolymer poly (lsoprene-b-styrene-6-butadlene-6-< 4-vinylbenzyl) dime-thylamine-b-isoprene) were studied. The data indicate that the membrane can be applied to desalt solutions containing organic substances of low molecular weight and also to separate such organic substances mutually. The permeabilities of uni-univalent inorganic electrolytes, such as KCI, NaCI, HCI, and NaOH, are about 50-200 times those of organic nonelectrolytes, such as glucose and sucrose. Organic acids and amines are very permeable in the pH range where they dissociate into ions. Amino acids exhibit low values of permeability at the pH of their isoelectric points. Marked coupled transports of Ions are observed in the dialysis experiments for solutions containing two kinds of electrolytes.
