essays show that it is first necessary to be steeped in the Japanese (and American) context and data, they are convincing in their emphasis on the need for economic analysis before resorting to other disciplines, or simply relying on intuition, for explaining economic phenomena. Japan specialists will profit from absorbing the contents of this book. So will policymakers and opinion makers.
