The study of pigment behavior in skin grafts conducted both experimentally and clinically have given inconclusive results. Lewin and Peck (1), using guinea pigs, showed that the pigment in pigmented grafts transplanted to an area of white skin extended to the adjacent host epidermis; and that white skin transplanted to a pigmented area subsequently became pigmented.
