METHODS Red Kidnev bean plants were used as experimental material. They were grown in one half strength Hoagland solution fora period of 8 days from the straightening of the hypocotyl, in the case of the plants to receive S-35, and for 10 days for those to receive P-32 or Ca-45. Growth conditions were 23+±1 C, 60+ 5% RH and 1,000 to 1,200 ft-c of fluorescent light on a 12-hour photoperiod. 293
