Two organic acids were evaluated for their potential to regulate feed intake of chicks by dietary means. When propionic acid was included in the feed up to levels of 100 g/kg, from 0-28 days, voluntary feed intake of chicks was decreased with increasing dietary levels of acid. Propionic acid had a greater effect per unit weight when included in drinking water as compared with inclusion in feed. Lactic acid, up to 30 g/kg, did not significantly reduce feed intake.
