The rectal temperature course was studied retrospectively in 192 consecutive patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). The morning temperature on the 1st day in hospital was seldom above 38.2.degree. C (in 4 of 150 cases). The maximal morning temperature was seldom recorded before day 2 or after day 5 in hospital (in 5 of 150 cases). The maximal morning temperature seldom reached above 39.0.degree. C (in 1 of 150 cases) and seldom increased more than 0.6.degree. after day 5 in 1 or more steps (in 9 of 150 cases). Of the patients, 74% were afebrile after 1 wk, and 96% after 2 wk. Patients with higher SGOT [serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase] (ASAT) maxima had longer duration of fever. Of the patients, 11% did not have fever at all.
