Amino-grams were found useful in assessing protein malnutrition in children and may also be useful in evaluating the effect of protein supplements. Moderate elevation in the amino acid ratio in children maintained on village diets suggests that subclinical levels of protein deficiency may be detected by this procedure even when the deficiency is not associated with a decrease in serum albumin. The supplements tested consisted mainly of peanut protein which is relatively low in certain essential amino acids. Although one-dimensional aminograms are not suitable for precise work, the procedure was sufficiently accurate and simple to be applicable on a large scale in field investigations.
