The success of the first AMS mission is due to many individuals and organizations. The support of NASA and the US Department of Energy was vital to the inception, development and operation of the experiment. The interest and support of Mr. Daniel S. Goldin, then NASA Administrator, is gratefully acknowledged. The dedication of Dr. John O’Fallon, Dr. Peter Rosen and Dr. PK Williams of US DOE, as well as of Dr. Douglas P. Blanchard, Mr. Mark J.
