This review includes sections on mating behaviour, sperm acquisition and sperm utilization (including patterns of sperm use, genetic relatedness and kin recognition). An annotated list of over 60 species of Vespidae, Apidae, Halictidae and Formicidae is presented, showing monoandry and polyandry, with, for some polyandrous species, an indication of the number of matings.
