In October 1903, a small, but distinguished group of cancer experts on the,, Komitee ftir Krebsforschung" decided to establish the first special journal on cancer research and called it Zeitschrift fiir Krebsforschung. Among the founders were: the winner of the Nobel Prize for Medicine, Paul Ehrlich (Fig. I); the Director of the Department of Cancer Research of the Charit6, E. von Leyden; and other leading international cancer experts. The first volume (1904) contained two original papers by A. Braunstein from Charkow, one by S. Watsuji from Kyoto, a detailed report by L. Aschoff
