MATERIALS AND METHODSSince 1959 the reporting of each accident occurring in the Homes for Aged has been compulsory. A special questionnaire is filled out on the day of the accident and 6 mo. thereafter by the geriatrician. Every accident is described and analyzed by a team composed of the physician, house-mother, and nurse of the Home; this is one of the educational means of the preventive program. The medical records, along with the questionnaire and the collected data, provided the basis for the study of the host, the agent, and the environmental factors involved in the accidents.
