Conclusion: The study identified that the social participation of PWDs and their families in urban area could be often restricted, and that insufficient health care services, health literacy, disuse syndrome, and burdens of nursing care be correlated to the level of social participation of PWDs and their families. Therefore, It is essential that health profes sionals including occupational therapists provide knowledge and health services concerning the prevention of disuse syndrome and support for the empowerment of PWDs.
