Our paper is oriented towards persuading the investigator who studies psychotherapy that nonverbal behavior is a promising data source. We will summarize the recent studies of nonverbal behavior and our own work-in-progress, restricting our coverage to studies which have systematically analyzed nonverbal behavior during interviews. Four questions will be considered: Why study nonverbal behavior? What kinds of information may be derived from nonverbal behavior? What is the behavioral unit in the analysis of nonverbal behavior?
