A comparison in digestibility and N retention was made between Meishan and Dutch Landrace gilts of 30-40 kg. A standard diet and a crude fibre rich diet were used. In the standard diet digestibility coefficients for crude fibre and crude fat were significantly higher for the Meishan pigs compared to the Dutch landrace pigs. In the crude fibre rich diet the same tendency was seen. N retention was significantly higher in the Dutch Landrace pigs at both diets.
