Work on these toxins in the only three pathogens known to produce them, i.e.Helminthosporium (Cochliobolus) victoriae, Periconia circinataandAlternaria kikuchiana, is reviewed and discussed. Evidence of the occurrence of selective toxicity in other plant pathogens is also considered. A review of work on the correlation of toxin production byH. victoriaewith pathogenicity and on the genetic control of toxin production in pathogenic and nonpathogenic strains is included.
