Concepts of human rights, including rights against wrongful discrimination, are a dominant feature of the current legal landscape. Articulation of human rights and anti-dis-crimination provisions in domestic law parallel similar de-velopments in international legal instruments, the most famous of which is the Universal Declaration of Human Rights [1].HIV and AIDS challenge respect for human rights in profound ways. The AIDS epidemic has been accompanied by epidemics of fear and discrimination against those with AIDS or infected by HIV. The prevalence and impact of AIDS and HIV infection have also been apparenty discriminatory in and on particular groups and populations. This means that it is mandatory for those concerned with human rights in general to be concerned with human rights and AIDS. Correlatively, those concerned with AIDS must concern themselves with general concepts of human rights.
