BOOK REVIEWS 303 conceptual structure simplified the initial design of the THE system, the use of assembly language in its implementation made subsequent modification difficult. This is a strong argument for the development of abstract languages for concurrent programming. The present book and the concurrent programming language for teaching1 are outstanding achievements that will make it possible for future students to recognize the role that fundamental concepts have played in the design of real operating systems and to master them by designing experimental ones.
