Fresh corpora or certain other tissues are extracted with acid alcohol, and the extract purified by elimination of protein, phos-pholipins and other fatty substances, then crystallized from aqueous extract made with glacial acetic acid. The product is largely associated with NaCl. 0.035 mgm. is equivalent to 1 guinea-pig unit. Biological properties are described, along with the chemical properties and a comparison is made between the relaxative hormone (relaxin) and insulin.
