In 15 women, aged 18 to 22 years, chewing paraffin wax for 15 minutes produced a significant increase in secretion of tissue fluids into non-inflamed gingival crevices. The fluid contained amino acids, as revealed by ninhydrin. It is suggested that the secreted fluid has antibacterial effects. || ABSTRACT AUTHORS: Finn Brudevold
